Style: slip dress

style trend comment

The slip dress has long been one of those unspoken pieces that you wear underneath your other dresses but the new style is to make it the focal point of your outfit. Worn alone or in conjunction with other pieces, it is definitely the statement piece. I’ve picked out 5 slip dresses that can be styled alone or layered for a completely different look.

This black slip dress is beautiful with the lace detail. Try pairing it with a structured blazer and strappy sandals for a more professional look.

Pink is such a romantic color and this dress is just that. Want to make the look a little more rugged? Try pairing it with this jacket and these slip on sneakers.

Stripes will always hold a special place in my heart and the details at the bottom hem of this dress is perfection. How about adding a button down around the waist to give some visual interest and pairing it with equally playful shoes?

The diagonal stripes on this slip dress would be perfect for a tropical getaway. Pair it with a cover-up, cute sandals and a hat, and you have the perfect, relaxing outfit!

Though in color and cut, this black slip dress speaks volumes to me. It would be great for a summertime wedding – simply add a belt and heels and you’ll be ready for the dance floor.

Style trend: scallop edges

style trend comment

What is it about the scallop edge that instantly transforms an otherwise basic piece into something more interesting and oh-so-feminine? I am always a sucker for anything black and white so I’ve rounded up some wonderful pieces that incorporate that and the scallop edge detail. It’s the perfect color combination and detail to wear year round!

Lace is one of the defining fabrics of femininity. Its use in a dress can create a feeling of ‘girly’ or can add a subtle feeling of intrigue. For example, this lace dress would be the perfect one to wear to a bridal shower (go boho: add a cute clutch and a flower garland on your head!). Or, wear this one to an upcoming brunch (love the collar!). And, this one is perfect for that next outdoor wedding (keep cool while dancing the night away!).

Off shoulder tops, dresses, rompers |

The off-the-shoulder trend is great for the summer – a way to keep cool without baring too much. And, the look is completely versatile – whether it’s a dress, romper, or top – it can be worn for a number of different occasions. Here are some of my favorite picks:

Striped black off shoulder dress

Navy eyelet ruffle off shoulder top

Embroidered romper

Pink off shoulder dress

Save or splurge: crop top dress

save or splurge comment

Save or splurge: crop top dress |

The crop top has suddenly come back into style this season. The last time crop tops were popular was during the 90s when practically every pop star was wearing it. This season, the style is a little more refined and can be pulled off while looking chic and sophisticated. Gone are the days of baring one’s entire stomach; replacing it are looks that show a little sliver of skin and leaving a lot to the imagination. The most feminine and ladylike style of pulling of this look has been the matching crop top and bottom (skirt or pant) trend. Usually the bottom portion is high-waisted to balance and counter the crop top. Take this great summer crop top combination dress from Tibi. The top is loose and open and allows a little bit of skin to peek through at the midsection. Or, create your own version of this by pairing this fitting black crop top with this scuba midi skirt. Would you wear the crop top look, and would you save or splurge?
