Holiday parties are right around the corner. Not only is figuring out what to wear a decision I’ll have to make but also, how to manage my hair. My naturally straight hair can make styling a bit of a challenge for me especially since my knowledge of hair styling is pretty minimal. Usually, I’ll end up curling it to give slight waves (and added volume) and create a look that differs slightly from my day-to-day hairstyle. Historically, I’ve used a curling iron with a 1″ barrel that yields semi-decent results – the challenge is that my hair is thick and requires me to hold each section in position for a few minutes in order to solidify a curl that won’t fall flat an hour later. KISS InstaWave recently sent me a curler to try – it boasts that the curler does the work for you (what’s better than that, right?).
It takes about a minute to heat up the curler – I opted for the “high” setting
I started by sectioning my hair into two sections. Placing the barrel vertically against a section of hair, I pressed the left/right curling button and let it it automatically wrap the strands. Because of the high heat (up to 420°F) it only took about 5 seconds to give a slight wave. If I wanted to opt for tighter curls, I could leave it longer. It worked well – no tangling when releasing the curler from my hair. Also, its design makes it easy to manipulate despite my non-dominant left hand dexterity.
Overall, the process was quick and easy, and I loved the extra volume. It actually made it easy to transition into a more formal hairstyle.
After putting my hair into a low ponytail, I created a small “hole” at the junction of the elastic band and my head. Next, I put the ponytail into the opening but instead of pulling it entirely through (like an inverted ponytail), I simply rested the ponytail into the “bowl”.
Since my hair is shorter, I tucked all the loose ends in and secured with bobby pins. If your hair is longer, you can expose the curls by creating “C’s” and securing with bobby pins. Add a spritz of hairspray and you’re all set for your next holiday party!
