Style: plaid / houndstooth blazers for Fall

style trend comment

Style: plaid / houndstooth blazers (borrowed from the boys) |

Adding a light layer will be needed especially with the weather cooling down in the coming months. If you’re looking for a chic addition to your closet, look no further than this “borrowed from the boys” look. Menswear-inspired plaid or houndstooth blazers are this season’s in look. A blazer will always help pull together an ensemble and with so many cuts (boxy, fitted, etc) you can instantly change your outfit’s feel and look.

Closet investment pieces that will never go out of style (at 30% off!)

deals, style trend comment

Investment pieces at 30% off | see all the finds at #plaidscarf #trenchcoat #ferragamo #toryburch #riding boots #weekenderbag #madewell

There are a few things that are considered minimal essentials in every woman’s closet. In my opinion, these pieces are the key elements to curate a timeless and classy but also, on trend style. To me, investment pieces are those that will stand the test of time and are worth the money upfront. With this 30% off promotion (code MAINEVENT16), it’s the perfect time to save on them! Here are a few of my favorites:

(1) Trench coat: When the temperatures drop layering is a must so your trench coat may be all this is visible by others. The classic trench coat is in a neutral color and is double-breasted. The silhouette works for all body types due to the adjustable belt.

(2) Classic black heel: every woman should have a pair of black heels in her closet. And this pair is one of my favorite (styled here, here, here, here, and here). The patent leather makes it contemporary but the color keeps it classic. And, the best part? The craftsmanship and fit makes these some of the most comfortable heels I’ve ever stepped foot into (pun intended).

(3) Plaid scarf: What screams fall and winter weather more than plaid? This scarf is perfect for not only keeping your neck warm but also double as a great shawl/wrap when you’d rather be in bed. The classic plaid pattern pairs well with just about anything and is a perfect accessory.

(4) Riding boots: a great pair of leather boots will probably cost in the range of at least $200-300 but the return is high, too. The key is to choose both a silhouette and color that is timeless. That way, you can readily pair them with your favorite jeans or skirts and dresses. I’ve ordered these particular boots and are anxiously awaiting their arrival!

(5) Travel luggage: I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had luggage fail on me. The worst part? When it happens as you’re trying to manuever through a crowded airport during peak holiday season. The amount of money I’ve spent on cheaper and less durable pieces of luggage has probably exceeded the cost of one investment bag. This leather weekender bag is a great choice: it’s perfect for carry-on size and the full leather bag allows it to stretch so you can pack all your travel essentials without too much worry.

Hurry, the ShopBop sale ends October 14!

Style: fall essentials under $75!

style trend comment

Fall essentials under $75 | see all the picks at

With the recent transition into the fall season, I always take inventory of my closet to see what essentials I may be missing or what new trends I can try out. I’ve rounded up some stylish options (all under $75!) that will serve as both closet essentials and stylish fall trends.

Trench coat: You can never go wrong with a trench coat – I consider it a closet staple. This particular one is perfect for wearing unbuttoned or easy to cinch with the drawstring. And you can’t go wrong when it’s under $75 (don’t forget extra 10% off when you sign up for their newsletter)

Plaid scarf: This comes in 2 colors – this pictured one that’s a more bright color combination or a more muted but equally pretty red and blue color combination (code MORE25 for $10 off $25). Either way, you can’t go wrong – the plaid style will never go out of style. Wear it as additional layer over your tee or sweater or tuck it underneath your trench coat for a pop of color!.

Side slit turtleneck: This is a fun twist on the classic turtleneck – a longer length and a fun side slit detail. Now, how can you resist either the olive green or burgundy colors? Update: it also comes in black, grey, and coral/rust color

Open front cardigan: I live in these! They’re cozy (most important!) and easily paired with just about anything (jeans, slacks, skirts, dress, etc). I love this particular one since it has pockets and I can easily slip my essentials in without requiring a wallet or clutch.

Hi-low raw hem jeans: Raw hem jeans have been all the rage. They’re made even better with the unexpected hi-low cut and gives it a bit of an edge. This pair is a great option for under $50 (code GOSHOP35 for extra 15% off)!

Velvet booties: Booties are a closet essential for the fall. Try these black velvet booties with your favorite pair of skinny jeans tucked in or pair it with a dress. The fabric adds a unique dimension to another otherwise black pair of booties.
